About Andrew
With more than 25 years of experience in commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, and a personal interest in technology and cyber, Andrew is perfectly placed to lead Carter Newell’s Dispute Resolution & Litigation and Cyber law teams.
Andrew helps clients in the conduct and resolution of substantial and complex commercial disputes, and to navigate challenging situations (including advising on proceedings for injunctive relief, responding to subpoenas and critical incidents such as environmental incidents, workplace accidents, product recalls, and data breaches). He is also experienced in dealing with regulators and in providing urgent media advice.
In line with Carter Newell’s firm values, Andrew works collaboratively with the Commercial Property, Corporate, Energy & Resources, Planning & Environment, and Workplace Advisory teams to help workshop and solve problems across the firm’s key industry areas.
Andrew actively contributes to litigation reforms and education initiatives. He excels in leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and reduce costs for clients (in both dispute and corporate contexts). He is regularly asked to advise and present on matters involving the drafting and interpretation of contractual and statutory provisions, competition and consumer law, the protection of client legal privilege, confidentiality and privacy issues, data and information management strategies, and the electronic conduct of litigation.
Currently chairing the QLS Litigation Rules Committee and serving on the QLS Innovation Committee, Andrew’s expertise is industry recognised. He was recognised at the Lexology Client Choice Awards in 2021 in the category of Litigation in Australia. He has also been included in The Best Lawyers in Australia (editions 2017–2024) for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Competition Law, and Litigation, and was recognised as a Leading Litigation & Dispute Resolution Lawyer in Doyle’s Guide 2018.
